So we were warned before chemo started that it wouldn’t be a cake walk, and until today Scott thought he was getting off pretty easily. Turns out after the tap is turned off is when the meds really do their damage.
Though his fever is at bay, Scott will need to be on regular antibiotics to keep it controlled. Some GI difficulties have presented themselves and he was in a lot of pain today thanks to some very bad cramping. Though it seems to have subsided a bit, he will be tested for some infections over the next 12 hours. These tests may produce results that put him in isolation for a bit, which will limit visitors as a precautionary measure.
But again, we were warned. Days 8-10 would be when his body is at its most vulnerable and when he would be most likely to get sick. One of Scott’s favourite nurses Deb reminded us this evening that she did say before treatment started that they were going to make him sicker before they made him better. Everything that is happening right now is expected, and normal, and not cause for concern.
As we sit here watching some tv and Scott dozes in and out, I’m happy to report that he is finding comfort in the form of warm blankets, banana Popsicles, ginger ale and Olivia Pope.
