Later Red Man

Here’s the scoop:

The doctors have changed Scott’s drugs, based on the assumption that he was having an allergic reaction to the others – ‘vanco’ and ‘tazo’. Since this change, his rash has gotten much better and he is more comfortable. So, we like the doctors that made that call 🙂

It was very frustrating and stressful for Scott when he continued to spike fevers. Not only does it prevent him from even considering leaving the hospital for a few hours, it’s just concerning to have this unexplained problem present every day, and he felt deflated each time he saw a higher temp appear. BUT so far today he has not had one, and it looks like they were right to change the drug concoction for multiple reasons.

We’ve entered a weird stage right now… He’s starting to feel better, his counts are improving daily (he now has 0.1 neutraphil!) and issues like the rashes and fevers are being remedied. Sometimes as the person who isn’t going through the battle first hand, I forget that induction chemo isn’t the illness that he’s getting over, but rather the first  phase of treatment for a larger problem. It’s not like he’s recovering for the next couple weeks and then he’s home and we have to be careful not to disturb a healing wound. Though we continue to stay positive, the next biopsy looms ahead, and there is still more information coming at us. But maintaining a positive outlook is all we can control for now, and the next two weeks Scott will just concentrate on getting as healthy as possible. And I know all will be ok, but this cancer ride is more of a roller coaster.

    1. Dear Scott and Hailey
I read your blog every day and find your grace, love, and sense of humour remarkable. You are teaching all of us how to cope with a health crisis.
I am hoping that Scott will be feeling well enough to enjoy a family Christmas.
