Second round down

Reinduction wrapped up yesterday morning, and Scott’s blood levels are reflecting that. So long neuts and immune system – it was fun while it lasted.

Once again, we’re sitting with a long wait ahead of us, during which he tries to avoid fever (infection) and hopes not see that dirty Red Man again. And fights a serious case of boredom.

Of course my last post jinxed him. He’s feeling pretty crappy now… His grip strength rivals Harrison’s, he’s more inclined to nap through the day, and isn’t in the mood to get up as much. Oddly his nail beds and fingertips are really sore. One of the most annoying side effects right now is a strong metallic taste in his mouth causing food to taste foul. Even sips of water are offputting at times.

Thirty days in hospital the first time around was hard. But while it was scary and intimidating, it was also all so new. Scott was experiencing treatment for the first time, and it was novel and full of apprehension which in a strange way made time pass a bit faster. It didn’t seem to drag as much.

It’s day eight and with 21 left before his release, Scott’s spirits are starting to dip a bit. It’s lonely and isolating here, if there is “action” that’s typically not a good thing. A crew of sick kids at home has meant I haven’t been able to visit as much lately, and it’s tough on Scott to not be home to help them feel better. Or at least cuddle up with cartoons together on sick days.

Maybe not the most positive post, I realize. But honest. Onward and upward!

  1. Good Evening Team Rogers!!!

A tougher read this evening but Hailey never suggested that all days would be easy ones.
A very special thank you for keeping us apprised of the daily activities Hailey. Know that you, Scott and the family and very loved by all of us and that you do not leave our thoughts.

Day 21 in the countdown will be here before you know it and Scott may even be out for Valentines Day!
The old adage that it is always the darkest before the dawn is quite accurate. Better days on the horizon gang!

Love that positive attitude….lets all participate!

    Scott

  2. I’d love to come for a visit to enjoy some cream cheese sandwiches with a side of old brussel-sprouts. Let me know when would be a good time.
