A rough 24 hrs in room 46.

By far, Scott’s hardest yet, physically. We’re in isolation, which means I (and anyone entering the room) am dressed in gloves and a gown and we’re limited in where we can go on the floor. However Scott isn’t going anywhere regardless, and for the first time has spent the entire day in bed attempting to get sleep. He keeps waking up thinking he’s been sleeping for hours only to learn its been a mere half hour or so. Ya… One of those days.

C diff, a threatening infection more common in immunosuppressed patients like Scott, has been ruled out (thank goodness) but the team is still trying to figure out the cause of his high fever. Potentially Norwalk. (Wait, that’s still a thing?? Shoot.)

He’s on antibiotics, fluids and pain relievers. Platelets went through this afternoon. Betsy has been busy. Fingers crossed whatever he has will be remedied in the next 24 hours.

Our parents taking care of the kids at home means I can stay with Scott another night, which makes us both feel better. I may be helpless in treating symptoms but I’m getting pretty good at prepping cups of Gatorade and fetching dry toast.

We’re so thankful for the staff here on C4. I really feel confident in his team especially during more uncertain moments where their “we’ve seen this before” responses are reassuring.

Looking forward to my next post being a bit brighter!

  1. So sorry you are going through a very tough time. If the team has seen this before, that sounds positive that this is a just bump in the road and smoother days are ahead. Our fingers and toes are ‘across’ as my Chinese father used to say. Hugs n kisses

  2. We’ve been thinking about you guys every single day since we heard about Scott’s diagnosis…so glad that we found your blog tonight to help us follow how things are going (and to allow you to jot down your thoughts). That’s amazing news that there is no C-diff (not fun!) and we’re saying plenty of prayers that tomorrow looks up. Until then, hopefully you guys get some sleep ❤
