We got the call to report back to C4 this afternoon – a bed was waiting for Scott, and he would be starting consolidation tonight. We had assumed that he would start on Monday, so we were a bit surprised, but eager to get onto the next step.
When we checked Scott in with the nursing staff, I felt like second year university students returning to campus after summer holidays. We were greeted by familiar faces, know our way around and we’re no longer intimidated or as scared. Instead we feel confident and hopeful, knowing Scott’s back in the hospital to continue on his path to being cancer free. The last round worked and all the pain had a purpose. It was worth it and what lies ahead will also be worth it.
Consolidation is much different than induction and reinduction. A lighter dose and a different schedule means Scott won’t be stuck in hospital for a month. Instead, he’ll receive his chemo on days 1,3 & 5, with two doses being given 12 hours apart. Barring any bad reactions, he should be able to come home for days 2 and 4, and check out on day 6. Much more bearable.
Family friends who had been through a similar battle (with a happy outcome), told us early on that surprisingly there may be moments during this journey that we would look back on fondly. The silver lining. This past week has been restorative for us. It’s been quiet and we’ve been focused on just enjoying the downtime and routine.
Consolidation won’t be a cake walk, but with Scott’s “bring it on attitude” and a plan in place preparing for a transplant giving him the best chance of staying in remission, what lies ahead doesn’t feel as uncertain.
The weather is beautiful and Scott’s private room has a view of the lake. It’s a good day.

Your positivity is contagious!! Thinking of all of you and trusting that all this will be over soon!! xox
