Scott was released from the hospital!! Though his counts weren’t up all the way, his Doctor decided that given their rising pattern they would continue to increase over the weekend, and without a fever or any signs of an infection, he was good to go home!
I can’t really describe the feeling of Scott getting to come home – it is about 90% excitement mixed with 10% trepidation. (I originally had that as 99/1 to avoid seeming insensitive, but figure I should keep it real here). I get nervous about germs, about controlling the kids around him, about wanting to reintegrate him to our chaotic home while still maintaining a quiet/relaxing environment for recovery. Though he misses the kids SO MUCH when he is away, when he doesn’t feel 100% himself, and has worries on the brain, it’s hard to be “Fun Dad” all the time.
But he was able to go to Harrison’s soccer game yesterday, and even took the older kids to the library (because Harrison would.not.let.it.go that we said we MIGHT go to the library at some point). An ambitious amount go off-the-couch activity for his first day back perhaps, but it did him good to be out and about. Wearing outdoor shoes, driving a car, yelling at encouraging the kids to not run in the library.
We will have a nice long weekend since the kids are off school with the walkouts, and will return to the hospital on Tuesday to check-in. In the meantime, with positive intention, we are looking forward to remission news soon. It will feel so lightening and encouraging when we are told Scott’s leukaemia is gone. This first stage will be done and he will be on his way to being cancer-free forever.
Remission. Remission. Remission.
