Uggh….COVID-19.

Not sure if you’ve heard, but there is this virus going around?

Though there is never an ideal time for pandemic and mass hysteria, it feels like the universe is really piling it on at the moment….

For those wondering, the case that was confirmed at Juravinski was in the Cancer Centre not the hospital itself. Scott and his nurses/NP/doctor were not in contact with the individual and are not concerned about exposure in this specific case.

Ultimately that Scott is in isolation and unable to leave his room for two weeks while this is going down, is probably a good thing. March Break being extended and camps being cancelled, not so much. One thing I said when Scott was initially diagnosed in December is “ok, well at least the kids are all in school full-time this time” – making scheduling a bit easier. Probably could have just kept quiet… but actually all will be fine. We have a wonderful village, and I have an AMAZING mom ready to be isolated with three kids if needed!

This is not to say I think its a bad idea for closures and cancellations to happen – I am ALL IN on minimizing risk and containing this virus as much as possible. I am especially thankful given the circumstances that precautions have been put in place to protect the immunosuppressed and others most at risk, like Scott. The last thing we want is for him to catch Corona, or be restricted from having visitors because it is spreading uncontrollably. As it stands now, visitors (one at a time, over the age of 18) need to wear a mask and not come to the hospital if they are feeling unwell (business as usual around here). That said, apparently people have been stealing boxes of masks (usually they are readily available throughout the ward), leaving a shortage available for staff and visitors. So now each visitor needs to request a mask from the nurses station when needed (changing it throughout the visit is mandatory), which is suuuper annoying for the nurses, I’m sure.

Hope everyone else is keeping healthy (and calm) 🙂
